Reader reaches milestone at Ryan's Pier

Congratulations to Dennis Yohnka, who recently completed the prestigious but unnamed beer-drinking challenge at Ryan’s Pier in Aroma Park.

“This was a very special moment for me — it took 8 years, but it has been fun,” Yohnka told me in an email.

Crossing the “finish line” in this competition involves the consumption (over any period of time) of an impressive number of beers from all over the world, and checking off each beverage on one’s personal scorecard.

The list of beers one must drink is determined by Ryan’s Pier. Whether or not you actually finish each beverage isn’t strictly enforced, to my knowledge, but it seems to be a matter of honor that one consume most, if not all, of what I imagine can occasionally be a nasty-tasting beer.

Yohnka’s name is now memorialized on “the wall,” which refers to a plaque next to the door recognizing all those who have completed the challenge. When I wrote about the wall in May of 2008, there were 89 names on it.

Yohnka and his family recently celebrated the achievement at The Pier with a plaque unveiling ceremony, and they shared this photo:
