Liquor Zone opened today at 963 N. Convent St. in Bourbonnais. Hours are 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday. The new store is next to Culver’s, near the intersection of Bethel Drive and North Convent Street. It’s owned by Peter and Lucky Vachhani, who also own Liquor World in Kankakee. El Mexicano (503 Riverstone Parkway, Suite 201) in Kankakee will be holding their grand opening celebration on Tuesday. The restaurant opened last month in the strip mall in between Walmart and the Hilton Garden Inn, near Exit 308. Inside, you’ll find colorful decor, plenty of booths for seating, and a full bar in the back. Hours are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. Saturday’s episode of “Barefoot Contessa,” a popular show on Food Network, is expected to feature a question from a Kankakee reader. A reader named Bill has been told that the Food Network star will be answering his submitted question during an episode expected to air at 12:30 p.m.

We went to El Mexicano on Friday night. We were not impressed. The waiter did not understand us very well. It took three tries to get a Miller Lite. The food was ok and small portions.
I will continue to go to the one on Court street by the donut place. It is not real pretty, but the food is very good.
