Best Bites print column (Feb. 4, 2010)

Here’s the Best Bites column that appears in today’s edition of The Daily Journal.

Cheezer’s Pizza Buffet opened Friday at 906 N. Convent St. in Bourbonnais. The buffet features 10 different kinds of pizza, a pasta bar, a salad bar, soup, bread sticks and desserts.

The cost is $4.95 for adults, $3.95 for children aged 3 to 11, and free for children aged 2 and under. Beverages are purchased separately.

The restaurant, which has a ’50s diner-themed decor, is located in the new Promenade of Bourbonnais strip mall. That’s on the east side of North Convent Street, south of Bethel Drive.

Owners Cindy and John Karasiewicz have owned and operated Cheezer’s Pizza in the Bradley area for more than 20 years. For the last several years, they’ve been at 161 Bethel Dr., which is about a hundred yards from the new location. They decided to expand to a buffet-style restaurant last fall.

The new space has ample seating and easily accommodates large groups. Carryout is still available. Hours are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. The phone number is (815) 939-2229.

There’s seating inside the restaurant, and delivery is available in Kankakee, Bradley, Bourbonnais and Aroma Park for $2.

Hours are 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 3 a.m. on Friday, 10 a.m. to 1 a.m. on Saturday, and noon to 8 p.m. on Sunday.

I’m back! Brendan, Grady and I were in Minneapolis last week celebrating a late Christmas with my family, which is why there wasn’t a Best Bites column. It was Grady’s first flight, and I was very nervous about flying with a 9-month old, but it turns out he’s a great traveler. Feeding him carrots somewhere over Wisconsin didn’t work out so well, but we were well-stocked with Wet Wipes.

Speaking of Grady, he forgot his snack ball filled with Cheerios at the Iroquois Cafe (101 Main St. in Iroquois) about two weeks ago. I’m certain it wasn’t the only thing that fell on the floor while we were there, either. Sorry!

    Denise:
Have to tell you…my girlfriend & I had lunch at Tucci’s yesterday & it was out of this world! I had the beer battered artichokes (to DIE for) & fetticine alfredo with shrimp. The portions were large & delicious and the service was outstanding…I can’t wait to go back with my husband

  2. Denise denise Says:

Michelle — When you go back, try the Devil’s Pasta. It’s my favorite dish in all of Kankakee County. It used to be called Voodoo Shrimp (or Chicken).
