If you’re in downtown Kankakee and need your coffee fix, try Elijah’s Fountain, which is now open inside Love Christian Center at 249 S. Schuyler.

Elijah’s offers all the traditional coffee beverages, including espresso, lattes and cappuccinos. The Mystic Monk Coffee that’s used is roasted by the Carmelite Monks, a Roman Catholic monastery, in the Rocky Mountains of northern Wyoming.

Also available are hot tea, iced tea and fruit smoothies. The smoothies are especially good, particularly in this hot weather. Try a Peach-Pear-Apricot smoothie with vanilla yogurt powder, or the 4 Berry smoothie. All are made with 100% fruit, and a 20-ounce cup contains 4 servings of fruit. I also recommend the Mexican hot chocolate, which can be served hot or frozen. It has a hint of warm spice, and you can also order a latte version that includes coffee.

To sweeten your coffee or tea, ask for Agave Organic Syrup instead of sugar or honey. The natural sweetener is very popular among those wanting to limit their calorie or sugar intake, including diabetics. If you’re not watching your calories or sugar, and you need a little snack to go with your beverage, Elijah’s also carries cookies, muffins and scones from Sakkett’s Home Bakery.
