Best Bites: French toast at the Warehouse?

Published in The Daily Journal Dec. 7, 2012

The holiday season is a busy time. It’s tough keeping up with all those special events, shopping, decorating and preparing meals, too. Restaurants to the rescue!

Warehouse Wood Grille & Pizzeria is now serving Sunday breakfast from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Justin Daniels, formerly of French Toast, is the new food and beverage manager, and he brought some great breakfast recipes along with him. Try the homemade biscuits and gravy. They are guaranteed to fill you up. Crabby Benedict, and rib eye steak and eggs will be available, too. Or try the savory SBLT Benedict — fresh Scottish salmon (wood grilled, of course) topped with two poached eggs, bacon, tomatoes, arugula and house-made Hollandaise sauce on an English muffin.

The build-your-own skillet and omelets sound scrumptious, too, but you have to try the pancakes. Add your choice of toppings — chocolate chips, fruits including bananas and fresh berries or my favorite, the Baileys chocolate ganache. It is out of this world.

Of course, Daniels has added French toast to the menu, plus homemade jams. (Yes, they are made right at the Warehouse.)

If breakfast doesn’t fit into your schedule, stop by to watch some football and enjoy the Warehouse’s all-you-can-eat wings for $8.99. Add a pint of draft beer for $4 or domestic bottles for $2.

Mondays only, the Warehouse is offering an all-you-can eat rib fest for $12.99. Tuesday is taco night and Wednesday, enjoy endless pasta served with salad and bread sticks. Don’t forget ladies night Thursday. Martinis are half-price.

Watch Facebook for more specials during the month of December.

Hours at Warehouse Wood Grille & Pizzeria, 887 Armour Road, Bourbonnais, are Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to midnight, Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.

The Baumgartner Group, who own Warehouse Wood Grille & Pizzeria and The Pizza Stone in Manteno, is opening several new restaurants. In addition to the new pizza restaurant in Momence, Herscher folks can expect The Herscher Pizza Company, at 160 S. Main. Heading north to Beecher, The Fireside Grille, at 1121 Dixie Highway, also is slated.

There’s always something going on at Fieldhouse — on Heritage — Grille & Pub and owners Chris Curtis and Joe Nugent filled me in recently. On Thursdays after 6 p.m., they are serving $1 quarter-pound hamburgers and $1.50 quarter-pound cheeseburgers. And if a quarter-pound hamburger isn’t large enough for you, try their Bear Burger, a 10-ounce burger with bacon, Swiss cheese and American cheese topped with onion rings. This burger is at least 8 inches high and definitely not for those watching their weight or cholesterol.

The stuffed burgers at Fieldhouse are not only unique, they are mouthwatering, too: two quarter-pound burgers stuffed and then served with a side of fries or a cup of soup. Try the cream cheese and jalapeno burger; the mushroom and Swiss cheese; the bacon cheeseburger; or my husband’s favorite, the stuffed bleu cheese burger.

Fieldhouse always has specials. Anytime on Monday you can get an individual, 10-inch cheese pizza for $4. On Friday, try the all-you-can eat fish served with cole slaw and kettle chips for $9.95.

Kitchen hours are Monday through Wednesday from 4 to 10 p.m., Thursday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 11 11 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Fieldhouse – on Heritage – Grille & Pub is at 12 Heritage Drive, Bourbonnais. Call 815-936-1111 or follow them on Facebook.

Bradley Mayor Bruce Adams told me that Popeye’s Chicken on Kennedy Drive should be open by the end of the month.
