Christmas cookies and Christmas bills have both taken their toll. It’s time to tighten our belts in more ways the one. This week, I’ll cover some of the best deals in town, and next week we’ll look at some of the local eateries offering delicious food with lower calories.

For a limited time, Lone Star Steakhouse is offering a three-course meal with your choice of soup or salad, an appetizer or dessert, and an entree for $12.99. The smoky bacon artichoke dip is great for starters or save room for dessert and choose between turtle cheesecake and a Half-Brownie Blast. The main course includes a 6-ounce sirloin — choose bacon-wrapped, Black and Bleu or San Antonio — chicken, fish and the Lone Star Steakhouse Burger.

Lone Star also has a special “6 Under $6″ lunch, but coupons are required for that one.

Lone Star Steakhouse is at 1605 N. state Route 50, Bourbonnais. Call 815-939-1355 or follow them on Facebook and Twitter.

Olive Garden Italian Restaurant has a “2 for $25 Italian Dinner” deal that includes three courses for two people.

Start with the restaurant’s unlimited salad bowl and breadsticks or a cup of homemade soup.

entrees include smoked mozzarella chicken, smoked mezzaluna ravioli with meat sauce and eggplant parmigiana. Guests have a choice between an appetizer or dessert to share. Appetizer choices include lasagna fritta or bruschetta. The dessert selection includes zeppoli, which are little fried breads covered in powdered sugar; two mini dolcini, a dark chocolate cake with chocolate mousse and caramel cream; tiramisu or lemon cream cake.

Olive Garden is at 2048 N. state Route 50, Bourbonnais. Hours are Sunday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Call 815-802-0204 for more information.

Bakers Square Restaurant & Pies offers an “Artisan Pie Shop” special that includes your choice of three items from four categories for $9.99. Guests can choose between soup or a slice of pie. Soups include a hearty cup of vegetarian black bean soup served with tortilla chips or the soup of the day. If you can’t make up your mind between soup or pie, $1.99 will get you something from all four categories.

New to the menu are the baguettes. There’s Mediterranean grilled chicken, horseradish beef and turkey bacon. Or choose from the salads. Try the new Cranberry Orange Crunch Salad that is loaded with cabbage, orange slices, dried cranberries, walnuts and toasted pumpkin seeds and then drizzled with a wonderful orange vinaigrette. Delicious! And it makes a meal by itself.

Don’t forget Pie Rush Wednesdays, either. A slice of your favorite pie is free with the purchase of any menu item from 10:30 a.m. until close.

Bakers Square Restaurant is at 1315 Armour Road, Bourbonnais. Call 815 933-2042. Hours are Sunday through Thursday from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 7 a.m. to midnight.

Applebee’s has a “2 for $20″ menu deal: One appetizer to share and two entrees. Try the spinach and artichoke dip — warm spinach, artichokes and melted Asiago and Parmesan cheeses — or the queso blanco with cilantro and warm chips on the side.

entree items include the riblets, chicken and shrimp, an oriental salad, sirloin steak or chicken tenders. These are full-sized plates, too.

For lunch, there’s the “Pick ‘N Pair” deal starting at $6.99. Choose a soup, including the chicken tortilla — nice and spicy — or the new French onion soup with mozzarella cheese. Salads include the Fiesta Chicken Chopped Salad, the Oriental Salad, the Grilled Shrimp and Spinach Salad (my favorite) or the Caesar Salad. If you prefer pasta, try the lemon shrimp fettuccine. Of, if sandwiches are more to your liking, try a chicken fajita roll-up, a roast beef bacon mushroom melt or a classic clubhouse grille.

Lunch is available Monday through Friday until 4 p.m. Business hours are Sunday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 11 am. to midnight.

Applebee’s is at 1040 N. Kinzie Ave., Bradley. Call 815-936-0571.
