Bradley Fish Fry fundraiser is Friday, Saturday

The Bradley Firefighters will be holding their annual fish fry fundraiser Friday and Saturday. Hours are 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. both days. The fish fry is held at 147 S. Michigan in Bradley.

Here’s a schedule of events:

Friday

  • Food Served – 11am
  • Kids Carnival Rides – 11am – ?
  • Opening Band – 7pm
  • Followed By Jason and The Haymakers – 9pm-11pm

Saturday

  • Food Served – 11am
  • Kids Carnival Rides – 11am – ?
  • Bean Bag Tournament (Registration at Noon, First Match 1 pm)
  • Kids Fire Fighter Challenge – 2pm
  • DJ By Lounge Lizard Entertainment – 6pm-11pm

The RhubarBBQ Grilling Competition at the Rhubarb Festival has been canceled due to lack of participation. The Rhubarb Festival will go on as planned on Sunday.

Kankakee Farmers’ Market opens Saturday

The spring season of the Kankakee Farmers’ Market kicks off Saturday. Hours are 8 a.m. to noon.

New vendors this year include Sister Marie of the Sisters of Notre Dame, who will be selling French pastries, and Rich’s Sharpening Service, who you may have seen at the winter market. A complete list of the vendors and the special events that are planned for each weekend through the fall is online at downtownkankakee.com.

Rhu-BBQ Grilling Competition to be held May 15

The Kankakee Regional Young Professionals will be holding a Rhu-BBQ Grilling Competition May 15 as part of the annual Rhubarb Festival in Kankakee. Here are more details:

What: Serious bragging rights are at stake for grillers ready to put pie plant ingenuity into their recipes. The festival’s first barbecue competition promises “grillin’ and thrillin’” with a competition that celebrates the art of putting meat to flame all while adding your own Rhubarb inspired creations to the mix.

Who: This competition is open to the public so you can represent yourself or your business.

Cost: $40 entry fee.

When: May 15, 2011. Competition starts at 10 a.m.

Where: Kankakee County Historical Museum at Small Memorial Park.

Spaghetti dinner fundraiser to be held April 17

The College Church Senior High is holding a spaghetti dinner fundraiser on Sunday, April 17.

The dinner will immediately follow the 10:45 a.m. service at College Church North Campus (897 W. 6000 N. Road) in Bourbonnais and continue until 2 p.m.

The cost is $8 for adults and $6 for children. Carry-out is available.

Proceeds will help the senior high earn their way to the Nazarene Youth Conference.

Asbury Church pork chop dinner to be held April 27

Asbury United Methodist Church will be serving a grilled pork chop dinner on April 27 from 4 to 7 p.m.

Pork chop dinners are $8 and include a grilled chop, baked potato, green beans, applesauce, a dinner roll, ice cream and a beverage. Hot dog dinners are $4 and include a hot dog, potato chips, applesauce, ice cream and a beverage.

Tickets are available in advance from the church office or church members.  You can also buy tickets at the door.  Carry-outs are available.

Asbury International Taste Night is April 15

Asbury United Methodist Church’s 3rd annual International Taste Night will be held April 15 from 5 to 7 p.m.

Attendees can sample foods from many different countries. The cost is 25 cents for a small taste or 50 cents for a large taste. Proceeds benefit United Methodist Women missions.
