Only a few more hours left to vote for local resident in national recipe contest
Friday, March 13th, 2009Bourbonnais resident Erik Almquist, 41, is a finalist in Rachael Ray’s March Menu Mania contest.
The bracket-style contest is online now at www.usatoday.com/life/rachael-ray-contest.htm, and readers are invited to vote for their favorite casual party recipe. Erik’s recipe for “Man’s Dip” is facing off against “Best Sweet and Sour Meatballs Ever.”
Voting in the first round ends today, so if you want to vote, do it soon. The eight winners advance to round 2, which starts March 16. The final two contestants will compete on the air on the The Rachael Ray Show in April, and the grand prize winner receives $5,000 worth of groceries.
Erik is manager of the Panera Bread at 159th and Harlem. His recipe was selected from thousands of entries, according to a spokeswoman for The Rachael Ray Show.
I talk to Erik this morning and asked him about the recipe. He said it started as just a couple of ingredients that a guy could easily throw together and has evolved from there. He says it’s very versatile and can be used as a topping for just about anything, except spaghetti. (This is something he knows from experience.) He also said it freezes well.
