What’s for dinner on Oscar night?
The Oscars are coming and I am wondering what to make for a special meal that night.
Usually on big TV-event nights we eat in front of the TV with our meal spread on the coffee table. The night of the big game of men pummeling each other is filled with Buffalo wings, nachos, chips and mini-egg rolls.
Last year I did a grouping of hors d’ouevres that did not go over so well. Plus I ended up being the only one watching the Oscars until my husband tried to bump me out for a major fishing tournament.
This year I am planning the Oscar Night mean to be a little more enjoyable: Imperial Chicken served with Rice and perhaps steamed asparagus. My other vegetable choice might be green beans sautéed with butter and thinly sliced almonds. The kids love the rich creamy sauce soaking into their rice.
I also want to do something special that may not be so kid-friendly but will be Oscar elegant. My thoughts right now are on a ginger scallops recipe I cut out months ago. It looks easy, tasty and elegant on a bed of dark green lettuce leaves. Plus we have fresh ginger in the house at the moment due to our oldest child’s fascination with oriental cooking.
Time to debate is going to end soon. But I still wonder what other people do for Oscar night. Perhaps you can share your meal ideas for that night or how your family plans to celebrate the brightest and best of Hollywood. Leave a comment below with a suggestion of what you think might make an elegant but easy meal to share with the family on Oscar Night.
